There would have to be very high entrance standards for publicly funded universities. Once accepted, high standards must be maintained or the next kid in line gets a shot. Nothing is guaranteed. Think of it as a charter university program for our nation's brightest. How the fuck could that hurt?

Exactly. I grew up in a one parent household, didn't know my dad. My mom raised me to expect nothing and work for everything I have. On that same token, my mom knew nothing about saving (not that she had much to save), how to promote healthy financial habits, or anything to teach me on how to get by as an adult. I made out ok, am paying off my student loans and just recently got a job making great money for a guy my age. I am by no means supporting government handouts for the average liberal ten year professional art student, or the 44k a year fashion design student. I'm talking about putting money back into OUR society, enriching OUR country from the inside out. Think of it like the New Deal. You same Bush nuthuggers would probably say that was retarded too.
