The concept is pretty simple I believe. I think the wireless simply sends the same signal an in car/key chain opener would send. So, if that is the case, it's really just an internet enabled garage door switch. I don't know about the open/closed part though. That seems to imply there is some kind of simple bi-directional communications between the actual opener and the wireless switch. Pretty cool either way.
(I think their site has some issues but....)

You have no idea how easy it is to get into a garage that has a door opener. MUCH easier than trying to hack someone's firewall/wifi/this device. Less time, a bit of noise, but not that hard at all. Especially the aluminum doors. 1 Crow bar, 1 hanger, 5 minutes, if that.

Just like anything else, if someone wants in, they can get it.

I doubt a thief is going to take the time to hack a network when a bat or crowbar would be much quicker.

Defeating a garage door is much simpler than most realize.
Hence why mine is wired into my alarm system.
