The son owns the shop now and their rep is still good as far as I know (from other customers). Judging from the year of the jeep I would assume the new one.

Either way, the point is the JK's sacrifice ground clearance for that better ride quality, and they do. For a grocery getter/family van JK's make sense. For off-roading, I'd rather save 20k and get a TJ which is more capable, lighter, and has a better motor for low rev crawling.

    • Baertrax didn't do the V8... I am almost positive on that. Most of the time they fix the crap Screaming Lizzard and other over the top shops turn out.

And they are still the promo, best of the best shop in DFW for Jeeps. I'm sure the guy with all the money will pay to have his shock mounts relocated... not like its a hard mod.

But CJ is right... if you want a Jeep for crawling, stick with a model below the TJ and spend the rest on mods. JK's are great if you aren't looking to go wheeling but a couple times a year.

He told me Baertrax did the V8 swap.

Yeah, if I was going to pay someone a crapload of money to do something like a motor swap it'd be them. Luckily though I think I can attempt one on my own one day.

He was a surgeon, so I'm sure it wasn't too much trouble for him to throw down the scrilla. Either way - a JK with a long arm lift and 37's getting hung up on everything says a lot about that ride quality - you saw the video.

So was it purely the shocks hanging him up?

yeah I watched him get hung up on his shoc mount at least 4 times. One of them I recorded where he got hung up on a rock and spent like 5 minutes trying to get off it. problem was we were on 45* grade and I didn't want that heavy ass jeep barreling into me.

                • My daughter has a high mileage 99 xj. I've been quite impressed with the zip that the 4.0 has, and have been unimpressed with all of the electrical issues that I've had to track down. I think that the power train will probably outlast the body on that thing.

                  • I'm really a fan of Baertrax. Josh is running things there now and doing a great job. Really seems to take pride in his work too.

And oh, that white 4dr JK is hideous

The 4.0L is one of the best engines ever made. I'm surprised you've had electrical issues, those are not too common on XJ's.

There really is no other vehicle like it anymore. The old FJs had similar qualities, but you're not gonna find anything like it thats built currently. Thats my only guess at least. The newer TJs dont seem like they are worth the money. As always the market determines the price, gotta keep an eye for a good buy

                        • Jeep wranglers hold their value better than any vehicle in the US.

Amen to that. Good luck finding a TJ that is in good shape these days for cheap.
