    This is cool. You can look at areial photographs as far back as 1956. Its fun to switch back and forth through the decades to see the urban sprawl and see where there used to be old homesteads.

    I have just wasted an hour looking at this and didn't even realize it. Cool as hell.

              AFAIK, Google Earth doesn't show historical aerials from beyond the past decade. This site goes back as far as 1956 in some places. I wonder if they are satellite photos. I don't know enough about what we had in space at the time.

                The 1956 pictures are definitely not satellite photos. They would have been taken from an airplane. Remember, Sputnik (the first man made object in space) wasn't launched until 1957, and it was only able to send a radio signal.

                    You're right. For some reason I thought Sputnik was 1950.

                        That's where I went. You can see the different airplanes on the ramp. Currently C-130. Before that B-52. Before that B36(?).
