He was probably just trying to put more of his car between the Explorer and his self. If he had swerved right the whole footwell could have caved in on his feet and legs.

The cop appeared to see that the drunk was coming from the cops right side -he's so far into oncoming traffic that he's over the dividing line and damn near made it to THAT curb. Cop may have thought that was his only way out?

I did the same thing - I suppose it is 50/50 I'd go right on reaction alone - hell, ya don't know unless you're doing it. I think most of us would've reacted in some manner, just which way you would've gone and if it would've made a difference...
