I've always loved BMW's... I mean since I was 2-3yrs old!!! (always been a car guy)

I also dig Audi, but I have a hard time with "premium brands". IE, I'm the type who will buy a VW vs. Audi, Honda vs. Acura, etc.

LMAO, I got banned! A bunch of fucksticks invaded my for sale thread and tried saying it wasn't a Sport Package because they didn't know jack shit about how the iL handled the trim level. I never got a single bit of useful information out of that site. (bimmerfest) When I pointed out how all of them were wrong and clogging up my for sale thread I mentioned that I couldn't wait to sell the car; not because I disliked it, but because of the type of people it forced me to associate with. I was permabanned! LOL!! That 740iL was a GREAT car, no doubt about it. I never felt right driving it, but I'll tell you, I OWNED the stretch of freeway between San Antonio and Port Aransas in it. It was probably the best car I've ever owned, and I couldn't wait to get rid of it. It was a damn shame, really.

IMO, one of the best looking sedans EVER made.

I had a 750iL and loved it but when one of the throttle body motors went out ($750) and then the intake gaskets ($1200 for just parts) I decided it was time to let her go.
That V12 sure did purr though. Only 12 banger I ever had.

            What year?
I think the intake gaskets are available cheaper through some of the forum friendly dealers. My boss did his 850's and I'm 99% sure he wasn't shelling out that much for the gaskets.

It was a 94. It was back in 98 or 99 when I had it and we didnt have a BMW dealer on Maui at the time. I also knew very little about working on them so when the mechanic said $1200 just for parts after just doing the throttle body motor I put the car up for sale.

Knowing what I know now I would have just bought some gasket maker and made my own. LOL.

I guess being on an island makes a difference. lol

The intake gaskets are weird on those - gasket maker really wouldn't have worked(maybe to sell it, but not a permanent fix).

Just my two cents here, but VW -> Audi just isn't the same as Honda -> Acura.

For the past decade and a half the VW/Audi gap did narrow and the cars did become a lot alike, but these days VW only offers three models (the Golf/A3, Tiguan/Q5, and Touareg/Q7) that share much more than basic architecture/engines/transmissions with an Audi product. Even the A4 has moved way up in size and stature to the point that calling it a relative of the Jetta it once shared a platform with is pretty inaccurate. VW doesn't offer anything similar to the A6, A5, A7, A8, TT or the upcoming A3. None of that even goes to mention that the interior, refinement, and optional-engine power in an Audi is worlds apart from a VW, especially given VW's new directive to move the Passat and Jetta downmarket in price, interior quality, and dynamics.

For that matter, Honda -> Acura isn't the same as it was 10 years ago. The Crosstour/ZDX are the two most closely related vehicles, the TSX is probably the most Honda-like of what they produce, and the TL continues to move further away from the Accord. The RL (even if irrelevant in the marketplace), RDX and MDX don't materially share much with any Honda.

Damn thats real fucking nice Geoff, other than any M car I would pimp that bitch! I would actually rather have a 335i with the twin turbo. A few tweaks from Dinans parts bin and that car will smoke a M3...
