I've been friction stir welding Aluminum for over a year now. Weirdest damn thing you have ever seen.

It depends on WHAT it is and how strong those spindles are.. and of course, how deep they friction welded.

IF the part to be welded is "J grooved" and stick welded, I don't think a friction weld is as strong.
