LMAO at second-guessing something that happened 25-30 years ago. This stuff has happened throughout history to all countries. Governments do change. Take what you learned at Baylor with a grain of salt. Living it is a lot different than "hearing" about it. ;-)

That is fine and good and all... except for the fact that all that stuff came back to bite him/us in the ass almost immediately.

He technically committed high treason during the Iran-Contra thing, but he and his cronies used Ollie North as a scapegoat. Also it wasn't long before Saddam used the weapons we gave him to commit genocide, and later invade Kuwait kicking off the whole Gulf War thing . I am sure his successor was glad that he had to deal with that.

I take everything I learn everywhere with a grain of salt. You probably learned of the above events from the mainstream media back in the day, but never really looked into them. I have.

Grow up, live a while, then come see me. Should we not help Iraq? What about weapons that we put into their hands over the years? Ronnie wasn't perfect, put your pussified generation has definitely benefitted from his efforts. Please don't act like you have shit on me...it makes you look silly.

By the way, I listened to all the hearings you "speak" of, and other than Ollie North making them all look stupid, they found nothing.

The Iran-contra deal was a disaster, Reagan admitted it. As for giving weapons to Iraq - they were at the time considerably more friendly to us, and were enemies of Iran. And in a post-shah Iran I don't think you or anyone else would have a great deal of concern giving weapons to an able and ready enemy. As for the massacre of the Kurds by Saddam, those were soviet chemical weapons to my knowledge.

And even after all of this shit, he still ended up being the best president of the 20th century.

C.J., most people on this board have no idea what it was like living through 4 years of Carter. I was in high school when he took office, and 20 when he left. These folks think it's bad now? How about adding double-digit inflation and 15% mortgage rates on what we now have?

Hey man, he READ about it, so he knows more about than you or I. I mean, it isn't like someone had to write what he read, and that person didn't have an opinion or an agenda and there is no way that that agenda might have found it's way into the details of that information, because as we all know, how history was recorded is in no way opinionated or skewed by the views of the person recording it.

...and then Reagan won the cold war.

                    I forgot about that.

Reagan just gave incredible speeches, he was very funny, had great presence, and all of the foreign leaders respected him. More importantly our enemies didn't dare fuck with him. Iran contra was his only real scandal. To chastise his presidency for that one blunder would be to absolve all the achievements he and his policies created. The Berlin Wall, fall of the soviet union, reaganomics, tax reform and revitalizing the GOP/Conservative movement. And not only that, the entire time he was correcting the ridiculous failures of Mr. Carter. Citing the Iran-Contra conflict is valid, but almost verges on hipster against the grain attention whoring in the large scheme of things.

Holy balls.. I didn't realize he's 22? I have an Ozzy hat older than he is.

Especially in a university text book!

I was in my sophomore year of college during the Carter-Reagan election, and both my British Lit and Government profs (women) friggin' CRIED after the election. I immediately realized I had been duped for 2 years.

I realize that the Carter administration's inaction in Iran led to the cluster fuck, and I also realize that criticizing Reagan in any capacity is like kicking a beehive when you are surrounded by a group of neocons. Reagan was a decent president, but far from the best.

I have read about it, wrote about it, and been taught about it by the former head of the United States Army Command and General Staff College's History department. I think he knew a thing or two about what he was talking about.

Disclaimer: I do not agree that all of the above listed things were necessarily bad, but it should ruffle some feathers.

An education doesn't make you intelligent, it just means you are educated.

Thanks for confirming what I said in my post, you have read about (and ~wrote~ about) history from the eyes of someone else. You have admitted that you take the word of someone else as the truth for something you did not experience yourself.
