In most peoples' opinions, your argument loses all credibility when the ability to clearly communicate is obviously not present. People have always liked getting autographs, there is no purpose other than having a momento of the encounter. I personally have always realized that actors, athetes, and dignitaries are people just like we are, so I don't really get star-struck like alot of people do.

Carbon fiber and and painted interior parts serve no "purpose" other than the owner like the look, I suppose the same could be said for an autographed car. Anyone getting their car signed fot the sole purpose of increasing it's value is an idiot.
