I never thought about there being a tag for gator. Interesting to hear the outcome.

Sent a pic to my Aussie friend. Here's his reply!

      "Swannie,
Surely you must have a Law to protect little baby "Lizards" like this one that the Lawyer shot.
How much was he fined for killing an undersized, helpless and defenseless little creature like that one.?"
      John.

      some shots taken in Queensland...

In the DMN article last week the guide said it was in season and they were out there hunting gators. I would "think" with him making a statement like that he would have had the right tag, license, etc. He also commented about seeing the same gator a few times when it wasn't in season, but never being able to find it during gator season.

In season or out of season I am killing it if I see one that even looks close to that size.

Remind me not to let my dog swim in the river.

Apparently the land owner has filed a complaint saying that he did not give permission for his land to be hunted. Not sure if that is true or not.

Legal hunting season is april 1st through june 30th, in non core counties, of which Leon is one, a regular hunting liscense is all thats required, in non core counties. As far as not having permission to shot it on the land owners property, it was in the river that would be public land i believe.Hes a lawer and i bet he has his ass covered.

I went the after shoot party last year for the Klieber's. That was a riot. They were walking little 4 footers around on leashes. Granted the mouths were taped shut.

The river from what I understand of course is public land, but if it was shot from the bank which he said it was, on private land that he did not have permission to hunt from? I'm not sure how that works but having worked with attorneys before just because they made it through law school doesn't mean the understand the legalities of any and all. I don't care either way just curious as to what the outcome will be.

If you're in the floodplain (along the bank), you're on public property. If you ever canoe, kayak, or raft the Devil's river and camp on the bank, the ranchers will ride out and tell you to go away, "or else," but there's nothing they can do legally.
