There have been a lot of really great rock guitarists, but none of them ever "got" music like Gilmour did/does. Outside of what Wes Montgomery did, Gilmour is the pinnacle of what is capable on a guitar.

i agree. i saw an interview with him once and he said that he knew he was never going to be a player with fast fingers, so he concentrated on bending strings and sustaining notes.Comment

He's certainly not the most technically proficient guitarist ever, but he's so deliberate and graceful. Beyond that, his mental understanding of music, beyond theory and into sound is mind melting. He's one of the great soundscapers ever: he's got an unmatched understanding of sound and how and when to make it.Originally posted by openroadracer View PostComment
