I can't stand the new "tablet" interfaces...takes forever to get what I want and none have been intuitive enough for me to walk up and make it work.

Fuck that shit on a desktop....unless it's for idiots who only use facebook and email.

I can't wait to see what people will do with the tablet-centered Windows 8 ARM-based OS. It's about god damn time Microsoft stepped up their game in this respect. Rreemo, get your foot all up in their ass and tell them to give me a beta tablet XD

About damned time is right....we've all been pretty embarrassed about the lack of traction in the tablet space while several others have run away with that market segment. Our last tablet OS (tablet version XP for those that don't recall that gem) wasn't a real winner by any means, and it's taken far too long to make a comeback on that one.

As a MS guy I'm not afraid to say it - I LOVE my iPad! It's a simple device, easy as hell to use, super versatile, outstanding battery life, etc. Some of the apps like Garage Band, Lick of the Day (for guitarists), Atomic (b/c we all know how bad Safari sucks) Police Scanner, Remote for Fios TV, RedEye Remote, News, all the friggin games, etc, etc are outstanding. Now....with that said, it's an entertainment device and perfect for dicking around after I'm off of work and away from my PC...and really good for when I'm traveling. But if I had to work from it, that wouldn't be so cool.

The thing about MS that sets us apart from Apple is that we are really big about "enabling our partners"....which I do understand and agree with from the perspective of sharing the wealth and gaining a broader reach with our platforms, but there is also a downside to this model.....it leaves us exposed and reliant on those hardware partners to adequately uphold whatever platform they are carrying. Example - an average consumer running WindowsX on some POS Dell laptop that keeps crashing due to a bad stick of memory, poorly soldered board, etc....that consumer will blame that issue on Microsoft well before Dell, and in a lot of cases even after it's determined to be HW they still expect MS to fix it.... and once fixed....they will still have it in their mind that it was a "Windows Issue". This happens to us a lot in the Enterprise space too....with companies like NetApp, HP, EMC, etc. Although the latter two are really great partners (I'll hold my opinion on the first one)....the OS is more often than not the victim in many issues these days.

This is the same damned thing that is happening with the Windows Phone 7....it really is a cool smartphone OS, but some of the shitty devices out there running it are making it look pretty bad. I myself am experiencing it with a POS Samsung Focus....have experienced junky HW issues with it since day-1...already on my second one in 5 months, and about to have to make another claim and get a third one.

After all these years, you would think they would change the color so people wouldn't know what to think when it crashed.

Say, did you sign up to try to get one of the google chrome os laptop betas? Did google send you an email to join Gilt.com, as they're going to be selling the first ones with a limited edition chrome laptop case? I want one, but I don't think I can get myself to shell out 500 bucks for something that doesn't have a full OS on it.

I'm sure they somehow found a way to make the search feature even worse.

W7 is microsoft's best OS to date, excellent piece of software. Windows8 is building on that with a more scalable interface... In my opinion if it's for a desktop or laptop, either one will serve you great.

                        This.

I am so much more impressed by ANY Android based device as far as UI goes on a daily basis.

This. There's no reason someone should be using (or recommending) a legacy OS like XP anymore.
