I refuse to ride on a busy road, if I ride in town I stick to residential street.

i live in a collage town, full of hipsters on vintage bikes and the ones with the goofy direct drive. I try to avoid the arias they ride but if one is being a big enough ass (riding really slow with head phones on and tapping on an iphone while swerving back and forth in the middle of the G.D. road) I politely remind them to pay attention with the aid of my two step rev limiter as I safely and slowly pass.

You would have to be a moron to ride a bicycle on any kind of major public street, especially in DFW. It sounds like some of you guys do it, but all it takes is one dumbshit 16yr old that is texting and putting on makeup to make roadkill out of you.

My stepdad teaches the MSF Riders course. He says the first thing people say at the scene of a motorcycle crash is, "Oh I am SO SORRY." That doesn't do you a lot of good when you've just been pushed around by 4000lbs of steel.

They're on the wrong side of the road, so they all failed.

If " bicycles are vehicles and should be treated with the same respect as cars" then they should pay state and county taxes and carry some type of insurance just like I do on all of my vehicles.

                    Here is the thing:

180lbs rider plus bike lets say 250-300lbs with no protection vs 3k lbs+ vehicle traveling way faster?!?!

Sure you got the right to be on the road but is it a smart thing just for principle. I rode all last summer on roads because all the MB trails were still recovering from all the rains. I stuck to residential, bike paths and roads with shoulders. Last thing I need in my life is to get clipped by a mirror.

Dont think anyone likes coming up on a super slower vehicle whether a car, truck or bike. With all the roads with shoulders I do think its kinda selfish not to adhere to them just because "you can."

^so the guy that smashed into my car because he was cutting lanes and didn't see my turn signal and put a scratch/crease dent on my window & door shouldn't be required to have insurance because he only weighes 250-300lbs??? gtfo of here with that shit

the guy was a fucking loser hipster/emo/hippy who i am sure didn't have enough money to get my car door fixed, repainted and a new window. the car is my daily and it has a few dings and scratches already so it was no big deal, i was just glad the guy wasn't badly hurt...

so i say again, if you wanna ride out with cars, follow all the rules of the road AND pay what i have to pay(ins/reg)

oh, and one more thing. scooters can be as light as 180-200 pounds, with a rider that weighs 150 pounds that is only 350 pounds. 50 pounds heavier than the weight you mentioned and they only do about 35mph MAX, most of the time they are cruising at 15-25. but hey they have to have ins and reg as well...

my bike weighs 570 pounds and with a 160 pound rider that is 730 pounds. still waaay less than a car, but of course we have to pay ins and reg as well...

the point i am trying to make is why is one type of transport okay to not have ins/reg? cause of the weight/safety concern?

When I'm on the road I ride close to the middle because stupid assholes pass me super close if i stay closer to the side. I also tend to avoid heavy traffic streets as to not impede the flow
Only thing you are not thinking clearly about is all the people texting and driving now days. No way in hell I would ride a bicycle on the road now days. Damn teenager will run over you if you are not careful.

If I paid a 5.00 tax to the state to ride my bicycle on the road, would that make people less likely to plant their mirror across my back? Bicycles paying insurance is laughable. What are you going to hurt on a bicycle with a maximum speed of about 30mph.

BICYCLES ARE VEHICLES. They are good for the environment. They are good for the soul. They are good to stop being a fatass. They are good to reduce congestion in urban areas.

I hate the way a lot of roadie fags act when riding on the roads, but guess what? They ride that way because every time they ride they risk getting plowed over by some bitch putting on mascara, or some hillbilly asshole screaming about "You don't pay taxes" (Has happened to me).
