Cool car, but the R-model stuff, EFI, and electric fan absolutely slay me. The Bob Glidden Goodyears don't help either.

There's a reason that cammers were outlawed, and it wasn't because of the 6 ft. long timing chain...

Anyone else notice it ran a 9.9...in DENVER! Wonder what that baby would have run at the 'Valley? Or Houston?

The guy should have restored it to exactly what it was.

The Dodge/Chrysler boys protested it in NASCAR, and had it banned. Even their new 426 Hemi couldn't run with it. The SOHC was the only engine ever banned from NASCAR. They did make a come-back on the dragstrip, even though Dodge raised hell about it.

                  Uh, no.

Many other engines were banned from Nascar, including the 426 Hemi three times - or maybe 2.5, depending on how you look at it. It was banned in 1964 (not available in a production car), then in 1971 (358ci limit for "aero" cars - this is the 1/2-ban) and finally killed in 1974 (Nascar outlawed all engines over 358ci).

The Ford SOHC was only banned because it was never available in a production-line vehicle. If Ford had placed it a production car, it would have dominated. But by the time they got around to homologating a big engine, the FE engine series was no longer in production and instead they moved forward with the 385-series based Boss 429. Which is interesting because the car that was raced with that engine (Torino) was never available with it.

Again, this is not correct. The SOHC was never allowed to run in Stock classes, again because it was never available in a production car. There were quite a few successful SOHC drag cars, but the parts were always rare and expensive. With drag racing, this situation will not work.

How many Top Fuel cars are there with six-foot-long timing chains?

None, the same amount of development done in top fuel. Spec valve angles, port demensions and locations, why is it people bitch about nascar again?

What is the deal with people pushing each other around the track now?

Isn't NASCAR going to FI in the very very near future?

I didn't say they ran stock at the strip, just that they were used there.

Dodge pushed to have the cammer banned, along with other issues. There was a LOT of politics. Google doesn't cover it all. LOL! Remember...they ran the 426 Hemi in '64/'65 without putting it into a street car, too.

a constant flow fuel pump with a barrel valve, high speed blow off's controlled by egg crate timers isn't exactly rocket science LOL. Yes we are getting injection next year.
