My step dad ordered a extended cab truck with a TBI 350 new in 1989. He got the 3.73 geared rear end in it and it would stomp all over a 454SS truck at a stop light. Funny as hell!

I'm pretty sure my 98' GMC Z-71 Extended cab (Vortec 350, 255hp, 3.42 gears) would run close to what a stock SS454 ran back in the day. Ran it for fun at Ennis once and it ran a 15.9 bone stock.

I helped a buddy put one together a few years ago. Lloyd Elliot ported 049's, Cam Motion custom grind flat tappet, YS series Vortech and blow through CSU carb. Real simple combo through a quiet 3.5" exhaust. It was a tank but ran constant mid 6's and went some low 6's on several occations.

It had horrible heads,Throttle body injection, and No overdrive trans and the worst, 8.5-1 compression. I think it was rated at 220hp. The lightning in the same year was rated at 240 with 100 less cubes.

But the potential was there

1990 Had the no o/d turbo 400 trans. 3.73's and was rated at 230hp/385tq

1991-93 Had 4L80E (4 speed w/ overdrive). 4.10's and was rated at 255hp/405tq
