The early intake makes better power than the '97-'98 on an otherwise stock engine. The Cobra unit is better than either of the Mark VIII intakes.

.....and the Marks get very good gas mileage for a full size car. My '98 knocks down 22 every day in town and will hit the very high 30's on a highway trip. I've never checked the gas mileage on the '93.

I bet that your GT is fun to drive.
The early intakes make the same power as that late ones do. Difference is where the torque is 97-98 is a bit higher in the power band. Plus the major annoyance of the IAC and the intake tube.

Yeah, it was fun to drive. Ask Johnboy now, he has it. Here is a 0-60 run with it. It was quite a bit faster than my 98 PI swapped GT with LT headers and 3.73s.

My old 96 Mustang GT with a 97 Mark VIII LSC engine. Bone stock otherwise. 3.27 gears.

I have seen many of these with the air-ride blown out usually on the rear axle and have heard that the components are expensive/rare, is there a way to put regular coil springs in them? I seem to recall that somewhere.

I haven't had a Lincoln since my '77 battleship-grey Continental. I wish I had that thing today. The last of the great land yachts.

You can coil swap but you lose some of the cool factor. Like the car drops itself an inch when parked or going over 60 mph. Plus coil converted Marks ride like crap. Well at least the dozen or so I have been in.

Parts are not expensive. The compressors last 10+ years and are under $200. Just replace the filter every few years at $20 a pop. Rear bags are $190 for a pair and the fronts are $189 for aftermarket or $350 for OEM and they include the dampener. They also last 8-10 years.

They aren't hard to find, but it's easier and better to just go with coils. You have options such as getting the suspension from a thunderbird, or going with the strut master kit. I got lucky and found a Mark VII with the strutmaster kit in the pick N pull.

Don't know about that 10 year claim, I have found the shelf life of the aftermarket stuff to be about 3 years. I did the strutmaster kit and didn't notice any difference in ride quality. It handled way better than stock with no ride quality changes.

Yeah, wasnt claiming the aftermarket ones would last 10 years. The OEM stuff will last that long though. Just replaced a set of 13 year old ones.

I have both and respectfully state that the opposite is true with my cars in regards to torque and power....yes, the factory rating on both is within 10 - the '98 is an LSC, but the '93 wins the race hands down.

I completely agree on the IAC and intake tube being a pain in the backside. That alone is worth the swap to the later model or Cobra intake. My hands just can't get in there to change that sucker.

The 93's and the 96 LSC are known to be the fastest years of the Mark VIII's. The stock numbers for both the 93-96 and the 97-98 are roughly 220HP to the wheels. Heck, LaserSVT has a baseline run on youtube with a Gen 2 and he made 229HP. From what I gather, a lot of the reason that the 93's are so much better has to do with the computer tune.

Yeah the 93 cars are special. They are the lightest of all years for one. They are the only ones with a 1 piece drive shaft thats better balanced then latter cars and the computer is different. No rev limit, no speed limiter and they have a much more agressive timing curve.
When I had gears, tune and exhaust on my last 98 it would still get walked by a muffler only 93.

I am going to go look at a 94 Mark VIII that someone is selling locally, add claims that it has had the air ride replaced with springs. Anything I should look out for? Price is $2500, not sure of mileage or condition yet.

Ball joints, timing chain rattle on start-up, strut rod bushings and power window motors. Also TC shudder is an issue on earlier Marks. See if the car shudders in 4th gear. If so then its time for some trans work.

Well, the guy got back with me, 174,000 miles, and the spring swap kit was supposedly made by Suncore. Seems like a bit too many miles for me.

Typo. Very high 20's for MPG. My mistake and edited.
