I had heard that the earliest Lincoln 4.6 DOHC (93?) did not have thrust bearings on the cranks so you couldn't put a standard behind it because it would damage the crank. Any truth to that?

Well a engine with 165k deserves a rebuild before it gets dropped in, I'm sure some manley rods, piston rings and bearings a thrust bearing will be in store!

No, not that I have ever heard of. I have never even seen a crank that didn't have a thrust bearing.

They have them. The only problem with the early motors are the valve springs (switched to beehive style in 96) and the plenum sucks for any application. They make better power then the later plenums but the throttle body and IAC are hidden between the motor and firewall. PITA to work on.

I agree on getting a Cobra intake. A 97-98 Mark plenum would work fine too and they are dirt cheap.

What all parts do you need? I'm sure he will sell them. Or the car without a motor.
The motor is the main part I need.

Yep. I kept the stock 97 intake on my Mustang swap. It's not as good as a cobra, but way better than the 93-96 intake.

How are these cars in general? I have always like the way they look, but haven't sat in one, much less drove one.

It's basically a souped up and more refined thunderbird. It's a 3800lbs luxury sports coupe. Great for long trips, decent handling considering how much it weighs, suck fuel economy.

They are excellent cars. Dont take much to allow the air ride to handle unbelievably. They ride great and the power really comes on nice with a free flowing exhaust and tune. Milegae is nice too. I see 27 on the highway and 17-18 in the city.

My current one is a work in progress with Willwood brakes and a forged teksid with FR500 heads and KB2.1L in the works. Just did suspension and chasis so far with a new exhaust.

                                Your info is wrong.

The early intake makes better power than the '97-'98 on an otherwise stock engine. The Cobra unit is better than either of the Mark VIII intakes.

.....and the Marks get very good gas mileage for a full size car. My '98 knocks down 22 every day in town and will hit the very high 20's on a highway trip. I've never checked the gas mileage on the '93.

I bet that your GT is fun to drive.
