          Um...I'll take a guess. The more people, the more energy is consumed. Also, and probably not shown in the video, we use more things that consume energy (TVs, computers, phones, home theaters, Xbox...and more people have a/c, refridgerators, etc) so that the use has grown exponentially (parabolic graph) compared to population.

          Just a guess, though.
