I saw one like this on craigs a while back and wanted to snag it up. I really like this body style. I really gotta buy a new house with more space. LOL
    Whos your Daddy?

Once I get all the mounts fabbed and tacked I'll remove the body and add gussets and plate where needed to make everything extremely sturdy. For right now I have the front mount mounted to the body to locate it on the frame rails and keep the body centered. The rears are a welded to the frame and bolted to the body to keep it rigid so I can fab all the other mounts. At the closest point the body will be 1" off of the frame and ~4" at the farthest point.

I've been plesantly surprised at how well everything has fit together for a body that was made 32 years before the frame. Plus, by fabbing the mounts as I have I will be able to use stock bushings in the stock locations.

Thanks, the body swap idea seemed the most logical way to go about getting what I wanted.

Snag it, the three doors are getting harder and harder to find in this area of the country without being rotted all to shit.

If you don't finish this build I will come to your house and steal this vehicle to finish it myself.

It will be registered as a classic. The vin follows the body, not the frame, so the DMV will have no issues with registering it as a 1972 Chevy Suburban. As far as emissions, it won't even matter that it is a diesel, it will be old enough to be exempt and tagged as a classic.
You should do it as an antique instead of classic. The "rules" are much more relaxed and you don't have to EVER get it inspected. No safety checks or anything. Both my '66 and my dad's '73 Camaro are registered antiques.

Aren't there mileage restrictions on antique vehicles?

Yea, but who is going to check it?

This will be my daily driver and I don't want too many hassles. I can register it as a classic and use period correct plates for the same cost as a normal registration.

With antique you're only supposed to drive to shows/parades and the occasional trip to the shop/garage. You don't have to display stickers in the window either, which I think will be the biggest hassle since some LEO's that aren't familiar with the laws will give me shit. It's worth the extra coin to not have to worry about it, plus I have no reason to skirt the inspections.

Now if I could register my 96 Impala as an antique I would in a heartbeat, that thing wont pass emissions for shit.

                        • antique is the way to go. i've had several of my drag cars registered as such, and drove the shit out of them and never had any issues. Its so much cheaper and so much less of a hassle. I thought I would have issues when i registered the first antique plate, but figured I'd say I was on my way to the shop (that i managed LOL) but never did get pulled over.

                            .
You might verify that. I dont know if it went through but they were talking about killing that option earlier this year.

No more period correct plates. Just the state issued.

                            • According to the website this morning you could still register with period plates.

Are you gonna bail on your burb chassis? Just how bad is the rust?
