At least an arm triangle wouldn't have left any marks for the camera guy to dispute. Haha.

Hmmmmm...how does someone with a video camera in one hand (while the camera is pointed at the officer the whole time) grab another's shoulders? Seems impossible to me...

I don't understand the guys motive for telling the cop that he didn't live there. I'm not saying that would have avoided what happened, but it might have made a difference. Cooter - legally speaking, he would have been trespassing if that wasn't his property, unless the owner gave him consent. Unfortunately, the cop never thought to ask him whether he had consent. Again, I'm not saying that would have saved him a beating, but it might have made a difference.

Lastly, NEVER try and debate your "legal rights" with a LEO. They rarely know the intricacies of the law and more often don't give a crap. They are not lawyers or judges that have a chance to analyze the situation and make an informed decision - they are in the heat of the moment. I'm not saying that cops are ignorant or that they don't necessarily know criminal law, but as you all know, there are a lot of gray areas of law. The one thing I know is that it pisses LEO off. Just imagine someone coming to your work and telling you how to do your work. I know my initial reaction would be "who is this joker" regardless of whether they were right or wrong.

My point I made (in post #15) was the guy spouting off that he didn't live there. It's not smart to lie to a cop that rolls up on a crime scene, he's going to wonder what else you might be lying about. He's already in a suspicious frame of mind.

Didn't live where, the house that was broken into that the cops were going to or the neighborhood in general?

The man told the cop he did not live in the house he was in front of, then changed his story.

And no Steve, I don't have an issue with it either way, I just remember when I read the earlier post I was like "What?"

No he didn't. The cop said do you live here, he said no.

I'm not saying there wasn't an implication but you are definitely adding to the facts.

False. He asked "Do you live here?" to which the gentlemen could have taken to mean the crime scene being investigated. He didn't really get a whole lot of time to explain himself...ya know...with the beating and all.

What is different? Cop-"Do you live there?" Man-"No". A short time later, the guy says he DOES live there.

This isn't just about law enforcement, it's about society as a whole.

How many teachers are assaulted each year?
How many cable repair men, ONCOR techs, McDonalds employees, etc. get assaulted or bullied because the general public has no concept of restraint or respect?

This isn't starting just because the police are setting the tone for society as a whole, give me a fucking break.
This thread isn't about Teachers being assulted, or Mc Donalds workers, etc
Don't try to make this something it isn't ..

This about the officer in the video attacking the citizen he is sworn to protect . He ( the officer) approached the victim and decided to take the law as he seen it in his own hands .

                            Restraint ?
Should that not of been exercised by the the professional in this situation ?

                            How is my opinion "skewed"

He didn't say do you live there, he said do you live here.. But either way it is vague and Crook could very well have misunderstood. Then followed that up by telling him he did live there BEFORE being taken down.

I have seen a number of videos where cops tell people to stop videoing, usually with no other interference what-so-ever. Why must they stop videoing? It just doesn't make sense to me other than some cops don't like it.

I guess he should have spoken up...quickly...and told the truth.
