  • Top gear USA

I absolutely detest the hosts, but maybe they will have some decent shows. They apparently race a Raptor against a skydiver in one episode.

This is the first trailer for the U.S. version of Top Gear on History, giving us a first taste of the American spin on the BBC's wildly popular motoring show. A peek at the cast, cars, and challenges below.

Ferrara is ok. But they should have just grabbed 3 random guys, stuck them together and let whatever chemistry develop instead of trying to force funny. Or just double the English Gents salaries and brought them over here.

The show is most likely going to suck, simply because copy cat ideas usually do. Say what you will about Jeremy, but the rapport he has with the other 2 really make the show for me.

I can say with a pretty decent amount of certainty that regardless of how much they might have gotten paid, they wouldn't have come over here.

it will completely fall short of the original... slack-jaws who have never seen the original will think it's fucking awesome, and it will eventually fizzle

I feel that part of the appeal of Top Gear is that it is not an American show.

              This version will undoubtedly suck.

Yep. Clarkson hates America for some reason.

Pisses me off when the jikkies refer to the USA, Canada, Australia, etc as "the colonies". I hate being grouped in with inferior countries... especially Canada.

Meh. That is some of it, but I think a successful American version could have been made. Unfortunately, the only people given a shot at the American version were the established networks who clearly don't know how to make good television.

The original is about great cinematography, fantastic cars and a trio of gentlemen that have great chemistry and focus on the emotive side of automotive enthusiasm.

TGUS will miss the boat on absolutely all of that.

I believe that Top Gear is also great because of the lack of influence that advertisers can have over reviews. Since the show is a government owned program, an automobile manufacturer cannot buy some ad space and get a good review.

I have a sneaking suspicion that all the American Top Gear episodes will have significantly less bad reviews of most vehicles because of potentially upsetting an advertiser. Hell, ill bet that we see shit tons of Mustang commercials during the episode when they review the vehicle, and ill parley that and say that the reviewers find almost nothing negative to say.

                    fucking excellent point/post

I couldn't put my finger on why the show is going to turn into a giant TNT Saturday morning advertisers' cock suck session, but you nailed it

                      You may be right.

They hate the US too much for that.

Personally, I'm ecstatic about the show. They have some big shoes to fill, and I hope they dont try to force the craziness to happen.

I don't think it would be horrible. It's not going to be Top Gear good but it'll still be better than any other car shows we have here in the US.

That's the beauty of the BBC being a public broadcasting entity: they don't need big money from advertisers, they just tax their citizens!

There is really no point to making this show under the Top Gear name. It just goes to show how uncreative the producers are by doing so. If they did this same show and called it Fuckin-A I would think it was OK and watch it knowing it was a TG ripoff just not as blatting.
