  • Dirtbike Guys - Parts sources, local and online

Bought a KX65 for the son last week, looking for input on good local shops, and online vendors. Kyle told me about Flying Tire on 820, but it looks like they went out of business. Kawi dealers are higher than giraffe pussy. I think the air filter I bought was $30, and they can be found online for under $10.

I'll be doing most maintenance myself, but I am pulling the forks and shock and will need someone to revalve and respring the rear shock. I can handle changing the fluid, but revalving is greek to me. Also, who do you all use for machine work locally? I want to shave the head a bit, and port. A lot of ppl online recommend sending to Eric Gorr, just wondering if there is a reliable local option.

Need input on oils for the 65 as well. I just changed everything using Kawi's 10w40. I've read to stay away from cheap oils (due to more detergent), and that synthetics have an adverse affect on the clutch. Can anyone offer any more advice on this? These 65's are notorious for starvation (and made more notorious by people trying to run 50:1), which siezes bearings and can eat the crank in the process. I'm trying to prevent it at all costs. If the crank shits the bed, there is a hotrod crank that addresses the oiling issue, but I don't want to pull out a perfectly good crank just for peace of mind. TIA.

Just need to know who is reliable and cheap, who to stay away from, etc.

Man unless they changed names flying tire wasn't it. I swear it was richland cycle or something.

i used mobil 1 mx4t in all my bikes, fully synthetic but without the friction modifiers that mess up bike clutches.

I was over there this morning, down at the very south end of that industrial park before MasterCraft. Couldn't find it, so I google mapped motorcycle shop, and Flying Tire was the name that came up at that location. I went to that suite, and it looked like a sign was recently taken down, and it's now empty with a flooring place next door. Maybe there is another one near there that I missed.

I think Richland has been out of there for a while, not sure what happened to them.

sorry didn't read this, but motorcyclesuperstore . com is where ive been going.
so far , so good. good customer service for sure, web site is pretty good compared to others.
prices are probably similar to others, they do clearance a lot too, so I like to roll through that section first.

I can handle the Kawi dealer for OEM parts, which won't be much. I'm looking to add a PC pipe and silencer, reed spacer, Boyesen reeds, and a couple other small things immediately. Need to beef up the bottom end of the power curve, and then I'll be doing the exhaust washer mod, and possibly a flywheel weight.

www.RockyMountainMC.com is where I normally order. You can get OEM parts through them as well. Google for coupon codes before you place your order though, you can usually find a $10 or $15 coupon.

all the online stores are about equal. but they have no heart, no loyalty. you will have to go local for that.

jeremy at lcs has called in a favor for me to pro wheel to try to get a wheel warrantied.

brian storrie at sms has helped me at the races with suspension and a tire/tube.

my buddy called donnie(?) elmer while he was on his way to parts unlimited or tucker rocky to grab some fork seals that i needed for a race that weekend.

i could not even afford this shit without rockwall honda and yamaha. conrad is a beast and handles business.

even that salty old man(ask him why he does not sell fox) at two wheel world has helped this brother out.

what i am getting at is this, set up shop with someone local and they will be more than happy getting you what you need at decent deals.

i have never done business with anotherredhead, but i plan on bringing him my k6 to tune one day.

I used pipers performance in richland hills for my suspention stuff and he did a great job. He took a little long but I was happy in the end.
