  • OCC Chopper on Barrett Jackson

I was watching a couple of hours ago and they auctioned off a brand new 2010 OCC Chopper that was designed specially as a charity/donation bike. It had a really cool American flag theme, and the proceeds were to go to relief efforts in Haiti.

The selling price was $18k. For a brand new bike...in a charity auction. Wow.

I knew the chopper market had tanked, but I thought that bike would still pull $35k. Makes me wonder what I can pick up an Ironhorse Texas Chopper for....I've always loved the simple black/chrome with giant chrome wheels and wide ass rear tire. If the market for a brand new OCC chopper is $18k, an '05-ish Texas Chopper should only fetch, what...$8k? I got just enough room in the garage at the moment.

Just noticed the one in the classifieds here...$13.9k. Priced right compared to the others on cycletrader, which are averaging closer to $20k. I can't imagine many people spending that kind of money on a chopper these days, but I still dig the look of them and want one in my garage someday.

I have seen them go for between 8 and 12 these days. Yeah the market for any toy is just crap. I want a Redline Revolt and since thye bit the bullet you can pick one up for 5k now where they were 10-12k. Same with the old Pilots.

I never really liked the mass produced chopper scene. I have however really been digging vintage cafe racers more and more by the day.

if you dont ride them hard the iron horses are okay at best. one of the guys i ride with rides ALOT and he bought one new and had it for a couple years. rode it every day to work(when it would start) and on the weekends. said that thing was the biggest piece of shit he ever rode. not to mention they only had like 5 or 6 different keys. which meant if you had a copy of an ironhorse bike key 1 out of every 6 bikes will crank right up(if it's working) with your key. i would never buy a custom bike to ride hard, hell i have averaged almost 1k a month on my nightster and it has yet to give me a single problem(flat tire doesn't count! )

Thanks for the feedback. This would be a bike that I would ride a couple of times a month, probably put less than 1k miles/yr on. Strictly a fun bike to ride out to Cars & Coffee or something. I just think they look bad-ass and I'd like to own one. I'm in no hurry though and am waiting for gas to hit $5/gallon so people get real desperate and sell toys like these for next to nothing.
