thats a little steep for an 03 R6 with the mileage and the repairs needed. I'd expect a clean running 03 R6 needing no repairs would probably fetch $2800-3500.
You saw my 03 blk/slvr wing 600RR right? Got 4200 for it, but it, like nearly everything I sell, was nearly showroom clean from the wheels to the sprockets, to the chain, inside the fairings, etc.
The miles on the bikes don't worry me anymore, my 03 R1 has 45k miles on it right now and who knows how many dragstrip passes under it's belt. If you want a good handling bike for corners, its hard to beat an R6. I'm in Texarkana and it's hard to find a decent F4i for less than $3500. I guess the bigger cities make it easier to find good deals.
I take excellent care of my bikes and they are always very clean no matter the age/mileage. However, it really varies as far as the general public is concerned. I see bikes all the time with just over 10k miles that are ragged out pieces of shit. Bikes that I'm not happy to own, that to me are rough around the edges, are cherry compared to some of the pieces of shit I work on.
Couple days ago I was fooling around with an 07 GSXR that had about 1/2" of play in the clutch lever, you could easily pull the front brake lever all the way to the clip-on, amongst other issues. It came in with cords showing front and rear.
You would be shocked at just how shitty some people take care of their bikes.
Which also sucks if you're selling a bike. 99% of the people buying used sportbikes don't know dick about bikes. They see a 45K mile bike and they won't even pick up the phone, but if you maintain/clean your bike well it's likely in much better shape than a 15K mile bike that's still on the break-in oil and original tires that has never been washed since it left the dealer, stored out in the weather/sun etc.
If you don't take care of it, the bike will never make it to 45k miles lol. Mine has been down and the plastics are rough right now, but if anything mechanical needs work, it gets fixed right then. We are finally getting some overtime at work and hopefully in the next month or so, the plastics and paint will be in tip top shape again.
Justin I agree that I've looked at several beat to shit bikes for friends of mine that showed under 10k that I didn't feel comfortable taking for test rides..and I have seen a few REALLY nice great running machines that had 20k miles on em. I don't consider myself to be an A1 top notch bike mechanic by any means but I've managed to squeeze over 60k out of my Blackbird and I'd feel comfortable hopping on it tomorrow and riding it to California and back. I am truly amazed at some of the garbage bikes I've seen on craigslist and cycle trader that they are asking rediculous amounts for...most of which have significant body/structural damage, leaks of all kinds, worn tires, missing indicators and mirrors, obvious spray painted bodywork, and in some cases salvage titles. I'm not saying 3800 is a bad deal for an 03' but I am saying it doesn't hurt to A: try to get a lower price and B: shop around for a few days to see what else is out there....after all as nice as it may seem...it is an 8 year old bike and you could prolly find something newer for the same money.
well searched cycletrader.com the other day.
not really shit better.
saw a 05 Kawi 636 with 9K miles that seemed appealing , that was about it.
I'm not really big on Kawi's though, but it definitely seemed like a decent deal on a clean used bike
side note my damn CBR F2 spit the chain off this weekend , so that won't help selling it! SHIT... at least it didn't take some meat off my legs with it!
In general when it comes to buying/selling bikes I used to always hear I paid too much and I sold for too little.
Everyone else claimed to be a better buyer/seller than me and I believed it. One day it hit me that I had quite a bit of experience and maybe these people were full of shit.
If you find a bike you like and you think the price is fair, buy the bike. It doesn't matter how little you pay or how nice the bike is some faggot will always claim they could get twice the bike for half the price, ESPECIALLY on the internet.
