I want a new front tire on my Road King before I take a road trip latter this month. Is there someplace better than the Harley dealer to have it done. I'm in the Plano/McKinney area

We all (tire schleppers) have our tolerances. I'll be the first to shoot straight with you. But, I'm also not going to plug/patch something that I think is dangerous. I'm sure that on some level DT is thinking about liability, but it's definitely about the almighty dollar for them. And, their usually just kids with an SOP manual shoved down their throats.
We don't do motorcycle tires. For no other reason than we just never have.

Bates #2 has Michelin Commander 2's in stock (at least for my 07 RK). I pulled my front wheel, took it and my tire I got from Bates #2 to Wylie tire shop off 78, paid 5$ to have the tire swapped, then drove to Cycle Gear in Plano to have the whole deal balanced for free. Easy.
IF you do not wrench on your own bike, give Jud Cowley a call, he is in Sachse, and one of the best independent HD shops in DFW. http://www.judcowleycycle.com/1995 Cobra #404

Not only do you always need a new tire/s, they absolutely hate their competition, the local mom and pop joints. Which I happen to know are good people, and do business as such. But yes, they are a bit higher than discount tire. The last time I went to DT I was so tired of their antics that I just said "Fine, I'll just take it to Terry's". Just because I know how much they dislike Terry's. Took it there, they didn't see any problem with the tire, they just fixed the flat and sent me on my way. DT doesn't seem to know how this works. I'm paying you, you do what the fuck I'm telling you. They've never heard of that.

And if you knew Mark Terry of Terry's tires, you'd know he wouldn't steer someone wrong. If he says your tire is fine, its fine. There wasn't even any uneven wear, its just that it only had about half life left. I guess you'll just have to take my word for it.WH
