Soooo my four wheeler is gone now and I am out of power sports at this moment. Looking at the new 350 four stroke and the 250x two strokes with electric start. How are KTM's holding up these days? I just remember lower end bearing problems a few years back. I might just go with a older well maintained KX250 or YZ but I am still on the fence. Going to probably get serious about another single seat buggy and the wife can play in that while I whip out the dirt bike. I either want a really reliable four stroke or a freaking two stroke since you can do a top end in an hour.

Having been a longtime fan of 2 strokes over the years and owning several (YZ80,YZ125, YZ250, Cagiva WMX125, 2 different generation KDX200's, a KDX220, and lastly a modded Suzuki RMX250) I chose to go to a 4 stroke because I was tired of dealing with cranky 2 strokes that are hard to start that foul plugs frequently, tired of mixing gas, and as fun as the powerband is (especially on a modded bike)...it also wore me out quickly. In contrast my rather docile DRZ400 is like a tractor....the torque is smooth and predictable and wont suddenly blow the back tire loose, but its decently fast..although a bit heavy. I LOVE the electric start. Although it takes more effort...I can ride my DRZ almost just as fast as any of the 2 strokes I've owned and it requires FAR LESS maintenance. Jason why don't you look at the 450 4 strokes from Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, or Kawasaki? They are lighter than my DRZ and also make more power...and you CAN make them street legal if you wanted to go that route. As for KTM's...they cost more up front, they cost more to maintain, they break more, and most people I know who have owned them usually have a backup bike for when the KTM is broken.

Haha Jeff you know I have owned my share of dirt bikes. I have even dabbled in the four strokes a bit. Maybe I should build me a AF500 just for the good ole days. I never once fouled a plug on a KX500 and I rode them for many many years. I did blow up some pistons, but not after I sleeved it. Piston slap is a bitch.Whos your Daddy?

I've owned several KTM 2 strokes but I'm on a modded out YZ250 now. I've never once fouled a plug on any of my 2T's. They can be a bit fussy to dial in but I think I have them mostly figured out now. A Lectron carb helps also. 2 strokes are my choice of weapon for the woods. I've owned a few YZF 4 strokes and ridden my buddies KTM 350 several times. I like 4 strokes also, but if I get another one it'll be a 2nd bike to my 2 stroke.
I REALLY want to build an AF500. That'll probably be my next project.

Multiple 2 and 4 stroke bikes as well. Last 3 were 450x, yz250 and 300 xc-w. By far the best bike I have owned and enjoyed was the 300....only fouled 1 plug in 3 yrs of riding and it never left me riding a "backup" bike...it was a 2007 - next will be 2009+ for the e-start and newer frame design.Originally posted by Sgt BeavisI don't always like lowered trucks, but when I do, it's because they really kick ass..
