  • Anyone commute on a Harley ?

I have been really wanting another bike for quite a while since I had to sell my last one when I was in the car accident back in 2010.

I have my heart set on a Street Glide and will be riding to and from work, Allen to Sherman, which is about 45 miles each way.

I wanted to see if anyone else commutes on a bagger and see what their thoughts were. What kind of gas mileage do you get, etc. ?

I will probably realistically be looking to buy a used one in the next 6 months or so, and figured when it was cold may be the best time to buy one.

Thanks for any insight you can give.

I got about 40 mpg on my evolution and loved it. Not sure I would ride in that mess of traffic though. Newer bikes probably get better mpg though.

Why a harley? You can get so much more for your money.

I'm in the same boat. I want to get a bagger to commute on as well. But i don't have harley money! I'll get another Nomad or Vulcan with bags. Something about commuting on a water cooled shaft drive bike seems more appealing to me. Post up when I snag one tho!

Exactly, like any modern sportbike that can actually handle and stop worth a shit

lmao, what exactly appeals to you about driving a shaft driven bike?

Just the simple fact that it's not a belt or chain. Maintenance involves gear oil change every 15k. It's the little things man... I hate the way they look tho...

Many of my customers do. I have a few customers are that complete road warriors. They take their harleys everywhere in every weather.

I have a buddy that does, he's a big son of a bitch too, 6'4" 375lbs and still gets 38-40 on his with hard cases and a heavy throttle hand.

Not everyone wants to ride a sportbike.

Especially 90 miles, through heavy road construction.

About 70% of the bikes I finance are harleys, the other 30% are goldwings, vulcans, and sport bikes. So yes, I'd agree wholeheartedly, even go as far to say as most people don't.

I attempted it, but the weather + traffic killed it for me. I cant stand to sit in stop and go traffic with the heat of the other cars, plus the engine. Or strong winds, rain or storms, etc.

I rode a 2007 Harley, Dyna StreetBob, for about 6 years and change. Everywhere, in most weather conditions.
