To me it sounds like he just wants to be able to pop it up for just a little bit while accelerating and then set it down.

Anytime I've used power wheelies was just because it was easy to do from a stop sign or stop light by just literally rolling on the throttle. I could just roll into it in 1st or 2nd and bring the front up without popping it up, and then set it back down, and that's all I prefered to do. I've never tried doing anything at highway speeds.
I have tried to learn clutching it up and got decent at it, but still prefer not to. And, the one problem that I could see with a newb trying to clutch it, is that they could dump the clutch too fast and give too much throttle and loop the bike before they even knew what happened.
Exactly what I am trying to say and bolded the key comment. I thought I made that clear the first 10 times I said I had no desire to run around holding up a wheelie.

Word....it's just that in doing those types of wheelies, you're more susceptible to getting tank slappers, which can easily lead to a wreck. Best case, you shit your pants.

So if that's all you're interested in doing, I'd make sure you had a damper cranked up stiff, or just don't do em.

Thanks. I got a bite on my bike last night so I doubt I will even ride it before I sell it. Anyone interested in a 05 Yamah R6?

All of which are good enough reasons to pay more for the "better" helmet, but if they all meet the government standards, do they all protect your head similarily?

I know there have been comparisons done in bike mags, but I don't know the answer and have always wondered.

How's that for a topic?? Too boring??
That's a pretty good topic. I always thought once you got past the $250.00 mark, you were paying for name/paint/ and ventilation. Of course some helmets fit better than others. But I saw a show on speed vision not to long ago about helmets. According to them, the shell that protects is the same across the board. The rest of your money goes toward the things I mentioned. I always buy mine by the way they fit and if I like the style. I have an Arai, Vega, ZR1 and a HJC. My favorite is the HJC.

I clutched up on my GSXR 6, but on my Monster I power up. I dont have to go crazy fast to accomplish this. I can hit the throttle at 20 mph and have the front wheel in the sky going 35-40.

I say parking lot shit takes more skill and the highway game takes maybe less skill, but far more balls.

              Discuss....lol.
agreed, to a degree. once you get into jumping to shit on the highway IMO it's a little more technical than the same move at parking lot speeds. a SS to HC is tight at the lot.. and fucking awesome on the highway.

but then you get into crazy ass circle combos, and highway riding goes out the window. the az hot sauce crew had some tight straightline combos in their videos, but there's way cooler circle combos by halfrican and number 2 on there.

There's one of theirs where a guy on an F4i is riding a spreader, reaches down with his left foot, and grabs another gear. GANGSTER

                I like Nick Apex's riding.

I think you guys are pretty much spot-on. The parking lot shit is very technical, but seeing guys scrape HC at 55mph on the freeway, doing foot-drag, reverse Christ, drifting, etc...that's the shit that get's my blood pumpin. The parking lot stuff is very impressive in it's own right, but I'll always prefer the streets.

I started riding in the late 90's and then a wheelie was bounced up in 2nd gear on the highway. That's just what everyone did.

Then the slow speed shit came out with all the lame bar tricks 10 years ago.

I looked at it like, no risk, no reward. If you can fall off going 5mph and not get hurt it's not that impressive. Would be like jumping a 4 foot gap on a dirtbike, who cares, go big or go home.

However, as the slow stuff got really technical I grew to appreciate it more.

That said, 70mph on the highway is a lot more exciting to me than anything the lot riders do.

Check out Jorian's circle training / practice video, and all the az hot sauce films, especially the newer shit. number 2's combo circles are nuts, and halfricans sitdown circles are soooo tight.
