Im probably not the best person to describe this, but this is how I think about the differences between the two :
Dual sport is an on road and off road capable bike, designed to be operated on public roads.
Supermoto is more or less a dirt bike with street tires on it.
"If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford
Cruising the web, it seems like the engines run a little larger in super motos, too. Maybe they aren't quite as concerned with weight.
as far as a street ride goes, yes youre going to want more ccs and not a high maintenance mx motor.
true supermoto racing that alternates between road and dirt are going to be factory 450 mx bikes with no real major modifications besides 17in wheels and street rubber, generally.
NTexas V-star- you need a ktm 690smc or a husky 610sm and nothing else.
That's not the first time I've heard that.
I rode a DRZ400s and it was pretty intense. Super light weight, felt like I was going to toss it out from under myself once I started getting aggressive in the corners.
It will wheelie. Quite easily.
I had fun on it, for the short amount of time I could ride it. I could see myself really enjoying that bike. But….I think I'd enjoy a liter bike more, and gave Kawasaki a really hard look. The 2014 ZX10R is an interesting ride, with the electronically actuated traction control with three stages. At max setting, if the bike feels itself slow down, say if the wheel starts to come up under hard acceleration, or something similar, it'll retard the timing just enough to keep itself under control.
Or you can turn it off. It also comes standard with ABS. And the white ones are sharp!!
But, I'm also on the market for a house, so no bikes came home with me over the weekend. As much as I wanted to.
