    If its a street bike
track down the owner its registered to or
call the police dept and have them run a vin check to make sure its not stolen.
Get an a surety bond through your insurance company and I believe in 3 years you will receive a clean title

    If its a dirt bike
just call and get a vin check and fuck the rest

And this is why you don't do that, of course the popo will take it if it's stolen.

I believe that is what the bond is for, they will pay it off. Usually they check all this before you get the OK for the bond though. I think after that you wouldn't have anything to worry about. I'm not 100% sure but this is what I was told. Both of my bikes have bonded titles and no issues yet.

              heres the full story....

buddy traded his truck for a civic and bike.....got 2 titles in the traded.
civic hes been driving with a good title in his name now....but when he went to the title office to move over the title on the bike.....he noticed that the title is in fact for a same year honda accord (cuase no bike has a gross weight of 3400lbs: , lol)........and not the cbr600 he got.

he said he ran the vin against something and its not coming up stolen.....but still not having a title scares me in getting it even with it being cheap.

                Like others have stated....

Get a history report/VIN check on the bike to make sure its not stolen, and to make sure there's not a lien on the title (title loans, unpaid note, etc.)
If all checks out then go to your insurance company and get a surety bond for a couple hundred bucks.
Go to the tax office and file for a bonded title.
Wait a couple of months to receive your title in the mail.

Just get someone here to run the VIN, or call up your bank and tell them you're wanting to buy a motorcycle and get a loan through them. Give them the VIN and they should be able to tell you also.

Sounds like he needs to find out where his Honda accord is.

<---- Has titled bikes without titles.

                              You can run the vin here for free;

The bike needs to be able to pass an inspection right away IMO.
You need to run a "bond packet" at the primary DMV in your county. The one for Dallas is in Carrolton. If it comes back clear with no liens, proceed.
You need a surety bond lined up.
Then you get the bike inspected with a green sheet as if it was an out of state vehicle.
Take the bond, packet, and green sheet back to the DMV and register it like normal.

You want ALL this lined up and ready to go as much as possible and get it done as soon as you leave with the bike, I'm serious, SAME DAY, don't fuck around. The bike can be reported stolen at any time before you finish the registration process and you're fucked.
