Lol. True story. It took me 2 sessions to figure out just how bad I sucked. I got caught and passed by my instructor..... Who was riding a husky supermoto. That's an eye opening reality check.

The only argument that holds any weight in my mind is the argument that moving up so quick will spoil you powerwise.
You can't ride the 600 to it's potential. Go do a track day and you'll see what I'm talking about.

And for the record my brother hit a curb at 25mph. Doesn't take much. Give the machine the respect it deserves cause if you don't it won't think twice about putting you in a world of hurt.
What happened after he hit the curb that caused all that? If you don't mind answering, of course.

But....but...but this Cobraman guy....he's different. He'll be racing MotoGP within a few months because he's special.

Trust this and Hobies advice. You are 18 and think you are bulletproof and that you can make a few mistakes along the way and learn from them. Those stupid squid mistakes can cost you your life in the split of a second. I've done Cresson and Decatur (after 20 years of riding everything from YZ125's to ZX14's) and let me assure you...you aint that good with your 6 months of riding. I've seen guys on old 80's VFR250's and CBR600F1's that would eat your ass alive. I've lost several friends who thought just like you...(I'm bulletproof and it'll heal and I can buy some plastics)......it doesn't always work out that way. Suck up your 18 year old pride and listen to a few people with experience before you kill yourself.

Yeah. That's what a few of the people in my class thought too.
We were sitting there talking before our first session and a few of them were complaining about having to do level 1. "I've been doing great on twisty roads, I don't think I'll be in level 1 long". Mind you this was the first ever track day for that group and myself. I watched mr. Badass get readily handled on his nice new 1199s by an instructor on a 250, a student on a beat up 600rr, and finally by my fatass on my beat up 1000rr. Pride will make you think you're better than you are. It takes actually seeing that you suck to realize it and want to get better.

You have gone from a whored out 13 second vette to wanting a 10 second bike? Be happy with the 600 and take your time.

That's like bringing a 2v Mustang to the track, making 3-4 passes and saying this is too slow because I am 6'2" and 250 pounds, so give me John Forces car, I am ready to do this shit.

the black car had 415rw. It was a low twelve/high eleven car.

220 lbs on a bike is way different than a car, and i was stating that because I'm big, and 1ks are a little better size wise

Went over the bars and smashed his knee into the the curb on the other side of the median and smacked his helmet on the pavement hard enough to get a concussion. Out was kind of the perfect storm if you will. Not what normally happens at low speed but that was my point. You don't have to be stunting and stuff for a bike accident to mess you up.

Also don't think I'm not saying my brother isn't mostly to blame for it. He was looking over his shoulder and drifted onto the curb. That's on him. Just saying shit happens be careful.

I rode for several years til I decided one night, after doing 167mph at 1am on GBT, if I didn't sell it I was probably going to kill myself on it.

Chicken strips and oil leaks.. Sounds like a perfect candidate to work on wheelies.

dude, ride whatever you want, just use your common sense....i would have started out on a litre bike if i had the scratch back then.

youre about my size, and a bigger bike would suit you better.

Granted I had a few years on you, but my first bike was a ZX 14. If I were your size there is no way I'd have a 600cc bike. I've rode a lot of different bikes and the most fun was a stock height gsxr1k that was bone stock. I also really enjoyed riding a vmax.

It doesn't matter how big cc wise a bike is, it is how you treat it on the street. If you aren't tracking the bike and being a retard you shouldn't cause a self inflicted accident. My zx14 made 205 rwhp and wasn't stretched, my next bike was a 06 stretched busa making around 170 rwhp. It doesn't matter how fast a bike is, it is how you ride it. I no longer own a motorcycle having sold my meanstreak a couple weeks ago. I'm not going to say I won't ever own another, but I've seen some great riders have people pull out in front of them. With the prevalence of texting/surfing on the phone drivers the rewards of a enjoying bike ride are far outweighed by the risk in my eyes. Out of all the miles I put on a bike I never had a close call and I kind of figured my days were numbered.
