  • Any current/prior ZX12R riders?

I just sold my supermoto and have been wanting a Concours 14 for a long time. Problem is, even the high mileage used ones are still expensive so I've been considering a ZX12R for short touring duty(maybe 300 mile destinations). Anyone in here a current or prior ZX12R rider? Would like some opinions. I rode one a long time ago and it was very comfortable. I know they don't get the best mileage but the performance tradeoff covers that for me.

What is your price range? I've ridden the ZX-12R and find it to be comfortable, however I would probably try to find a CBR1100XX if I was looking for short duty touring as you can find one set up with Corbin Bags, Seat, Screen etc for the 4.5-5.5 range.

If at all possible, I'd find a way to get the 14.

zx12 is old tech and the front fairing looks like something from outer space.....still a beast though.

you could probably find an older model gsxr1300 for a decent price, zx14's are still up there in the high 6k-7k range

I'm a big fan of the ZX12R as far as looks go. Id ride an XX but the Busas are Fugly in my opinion. I've been looking at a metallic green 12 for a very good price.

Busa's may be fugly, but if you want a comfortable long distance ride, I think you would like it better than the 12.

Randy is right though, for touring I would find a way to get the 14. I have seem them on the 14 boards for around $6500.

I don't necessarily think the 14s look good but I would ride one. They're still considerably more than Id like to spend.

AnotherRedHead and CMarsh. Does ARH still have his shop? I haven't seen him online in quite a while.

I noticed a sharp drop in posts from ARH (Nick) several months back, and can't remember the last time I saw a post from Marsh. Either would say get a Busa and turbocharge it/spray it. They dont get bikes like Busa's, ZX14's, ZX12's, or Blackbirds for their comfort. They get them to race. Turbo's, spray, big bore kits.....they're in it for speed. I also think the Busa is fucking HIDEOUS....but if you can get past the looks and the name.....they are VERY comfortable bikes for long distances. The ZX12R was Kawasaki's attempt to merge the comfort and high speed capability of the ZX11 with the handling and nimbleness of the ZX10. It is comfortable, but nothing like a Blackbird, Busa, or Concourse/ZX14. It was only made for a short time so god forbid if you need parts...you're gonna pay premium for them. I'm quite happy with my 99' Blackbird and just passed 80k miles. Many more planned.

the guy is talking about a new C-14 for touring. Next closest thing is obviously another touring bike of the same caliber from another company, or just jump on a ZX-14 with some risers and luggage. what's so hard about it?

The 12s were built for 7yrs. I wouldn't call that a short time. Either way, the one I was looking at ended up being stolen(I assume.. no title) so I didn't buy it. Just gonna hang onto the cash for now.

I would still save my pennies for the 14.
