  • Looking for a dual sport

Alright I am looking at getting a dual sport bike (motard style) and have about 6-7k to work with.

I want something to drive to work/weekend trip every once in a while.

The furthest I can think of riding would be from Grapevine to winstar and possibly trips to Waco.

    Here are my optons:

    Suzuki DR650se http://www.suzukicycles.com/Product%...2/DR650SE.aspx

    Honda XR650L http://powersports.honda.com/2012/xr650l.aspx

    Kawasaki KLR 650 http://www.kawasaki.com/Products/Pro...scid=14&id=559

are there any other good bikes out there?

You are gonna be most happy with the KLR ... The other two are too geared towards dirt, not gonna be the best for a road trip.

Also take a look at the vstrom 650 ... should be able to pick up a used one cheap.

Klr 650 that my dad had for a year wasn't good on road or dirt. Was pretty fun though.

youll just have to look around and check out used inventory...any dealer could have something like that.

there's a nice 04 625 smc on cl right now for 5k obo..

why no Triumph Tiger 800 or 1050 options?

The 1050 is Shaft drive, but it should be a beast.

that looks like a nice bike.

It looks like the klr fits most of my needs. I need to go sit on a few bikes before I decide

With your price point I would look at used Buell Ulysses and Suzuki V-Stroms, you can find them loaded up with gadgets and bags for right around that price point.

this , or you could also look to Husqvarna 600 smr's, or whatever model it is.
I have the 510SMR, and the 600 series is a better highway bike.
                        I love mine!

I've ridden all of the bikes you've mentioned, and they're all pretty boring on the street. the KLR was the most comfortable but its also the least "dirtbikey".

I would go for a Supermotard. If not a KTM, A DRZ400SM would also be a really good choice.. They're not nearly as fast but they're almost indestructible, and great for some hooligan riding. WR250X is another good one, but hard to find. All of these bikes are going to suck on the highway if its windy or if you're going any kind of real distance like waco. Your ass/balls/hands are going to be vibrating like a motherfucker.

Say no to huskies and Aprilias. While they're bad ass in their own right, most of them are also straight up race bikes and more maintenance-heavy.

Do you have any actual dirtbike/streetbike experience?

I have ridden on dirt quite a bit growing up and have lots of fun on the street with my 50

                            but no real world driving
