There's lots of other roads up there to ride up here, so don't go all that way and just ride the Dragon all weekend. It's a good road but lots of idiots ride it, going over the line in corners, people riding way to fast, sometimes you get a truck on it which takes up the whole road in a blind corner.

On the weekend especially this time of year the place will be packed during the day especially on a weekend. My advice is to hit it up before 8 or 9 am and get some runs in then bounce to find some other roads in the area. Try to hit up the Cherohala Skyway which isn't far from the Dragon. It's a good road usually has less traffic depending on the time of day and has more sane folks riding it.

If you have time ride up to Cherokee, NC and hit some of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
