  • The yamaha VMAX

well its been several years since ive owned a bike and I have kinda been throwing around around the idea of getting one to ride to and from work. I'm 31 and sportbikes are fun and fast as fuck but not fun to ride for a long period of time.. v-rod while awesome is way out of my budget. Never liked harleys.. But lately the vmax has been catching my eye.. even the older ones (although the new ones might be the sexiest bike ive ever seen).. Anyone ever had any experience with one of those? I know they make quite a bit of power and you can find older ones with low miles for decent prices..

Vrods start at $14k now. Not that bad. A new Vmax is what, $18-20k?

You can find good used vrods for $10k and below.

Check out M109's too. Not as fast as a vmax, but still a lot of low end torque, and pretty comfy. I have had several days of 500 plus miles on mine. They can be had from 6-8 in very good condition.

I have seen vrods go for 4k with high miles and there are guys getting 100k on them. I had an 07 Vmax and 02 Vrod and hands down the Vrod was better. Rode better and handled better at speed. A lot of the Vmax bikes have headshake, oil sensor issues, 3rd gear problems etc. Don't get me wrong they are decent but do not compare to the Vrods.

I've got to ride an 86 VMAX that my best friend had. It was an awesome bike. Didnt' handle as bad as some folks say it did even with the little spindly front forks. Was down right amazing in a straight line especially when the V-Boost kicked in.

I'd get the old one before the new one based just on price alone.

I've ridden an 86 Vmax and I owned an 85 V65 Magna years ago. The V65 was stupid fast if you had the balls to twist the grip and hang on...the chassis was nowhere near as capable as the motor. The Vmax is a better bike hands down, but again...it is not the best cruiser out there. The Vrod is a good looking bike....but I've never been a big fan because of its short range and the cost of owning and maintaining one.

25 years ago, I had a buddy that worked at the old "Trail West Honda" in Oak Cliff (right at the levee). At the time I had a CB1100F that was really nice and pretty fast (I thought). My bike needed a little tweak, so I stoppped in and there was a new '87 V Max in the store. My buddy says, "Don't tell anyone here in the store", and sticks me on the V Max. At that time, I had never ridden or driven anything that fast in my life. I35 became a blur, and I was past Illinois and headed south on 67 within a minute or two. I'm still not sure I've ever ridden anything that fast since.

I rode the "sport" version of the Vrod with rear set pegs drag bars. Hands down the worst motorcycle I've ever swung a leg over. Horrid handling, worse brakes, power was ehh, most uncomfortable bike I've ridden to date.

                          I wouldn't buy one for 10 bucks

Well damn...shoulda rolled over and BS'd...me and the guy on the ZX14 were talking bikes for a good 10 minutes or so until some old drunk guy walked out and started telling us his Concourse 14 would blow my Blackbird and his ZX14 away
I had just gotten back from a quick ride down to the Hard 8 bbq in Stephenville with a couple of buddies.
