  • Anyone ride cruisers in here?

I know there is a ton of street and dirt, but does anyone ride anything just to cruise on?

I'm an admitted newbie, but after a few gatherings at my house and some friends bringing over their Harley's, I think I have a bug and will jump in over the next few months. I've heard mixed reviews from people saying "get a honda shadow" and the like, but I'd rather jump into a smaller Harley.

I have limited riding experience from many years ago, but think I have my eyes on a few different HD Super Glides that I may want to work something out on. It's no Street Glide (would love to have one after seeing a relative's), but that is something that will take time and experience.

Also will take an MSF class here in the next month.

      Present.

I doing personally fit very well on any Harley that i've ever ridden. They seem to build them to fit a person about 5'7", and i'm 6'2".

That said, I ride with a primarily Harley group.

<-- 5'9", so it works well. And call me a pussy if you want, but I'd always wear a helmet and protective gear...

Uh.... Does a M-109 count as a cruiser?
          Some cars and a bike...

Some say... they have been raced, some a lot

Cool deal. The dynas and supers also have the easy option on forward controls, but I like a radio an the fairing blocking wind.

If i'm in town, I wear a half lid. Out on the back roads, I do ride without on occasion.

So let me ask you a question, because I've heard answers both ways.

New rider (rode a few years 15+ years ago on a ZX6), but would you think a Super Glide is an appropriate "first" bike for a 200lb guy with common sense?

Last bike I rode was an R6 nearly 10 years prior to the day I picked up my cruiser. I have a star 1300 that isn't a "fast" bike, but faster than most harleys (well except the v rod our whatever they call their muscle bike) and I got used to it quick. So yes, the super glide wouldn't be a bad bike to start on.

my advice is to get whatever bike you WANT up front, because you will still want it after a while. The street glides are the highest selling bike on the market for a reason, they look Cool, and they ride good. The road glide is awesome on the highway, but the look of it isn't something everyone likes. Its the same bike as the street glide, side from the frame mounted fairing.

Bought this a couple of years ago and never looked back. It is a 96 and I have done nothing to it but change the fluids, add a radio, grips, and a Mustang seat. It is a 96 and one of the last years for a carb. It is actually better balanced and shifts better than the 06 1600 Vulcan I had before it that I had bought new. I still want another VRod to go with it one day but overall this thing is like riding a big moped around. Every now and again I want another sport bike to screw around on but after a hour or so on one I am over it.

                  Whos your Daddy?

I've ridden them on and off. I ride my dad's Yammie Stratoliner when I want to ride something different. They just don't usually fit my riding style.

I will say one of my favorite cruisers I've ever ridden has been a simple little V-Star 650 Classic with a windscreen. It's lightweight, handles good, is cheap, has shaft drive, gets 50 to 60 MPG and is fun to wring out.

Two of my favorite Harleys are both Sportsters. The XR1200R and the Nightster.

Thanks! I do it on long rides just to change my seating position and sit on a different part of my ass for awhile...

Prolly not to most Harley owners because its actually fast and reliable.

I've never owned a Harley only because I can't afford the ones I want. I have owned vstar 650's which were fun but I grew out of them quick. My favorite cruiser I've ridden is the Vulcan Nomad. Big, road king like, luggage. Was an awesome bike with LOTS of aftermarket fare.
Not tellin u to not get a Harley, but I am tellin ya to hit some of the jap dealers and take some vulcans, boulevards, vstar, etc. make ur decision then. Oh, and I don't currently ride anymore. Had a Vulcan drifter last. But once my son was born, shit got real yo. I sold it and got another mustang. Goodluck!
