not sure what your car is worth but for $3700ish id rather have a newer 600 cc bike imo.

i think the 2001 was the first gsxr 1000 right? is that fuel injected?

I think I would pass on that if your car is worth at least 3k.

That thing is worth 2500 max

Not a chance in hell I'd pay 3750 for that overweight underpowered 11 year old tank. Any modern 600 would eat that thing up.

Its all a matter of opinion...so yeah..if the OP wants it he can get it...but I think he could get something considerably newer with a little more searching. In a straight line...balls to the wall....it might outrun a new 600....but not by much...and compared to any 600 or even liter made in the last 5 years...its a LOT heavier and a lot more uncomfortable to ride. As for my Blackbird....I dont know what an 01 GSXR 1K is rated...dont really care. My old Battleship is rated stock at 150 crank HP by most reputable sources..and I've modded it slightly (4-1 D&D exhaust, and removed the center stand) for my own preferences. My BB is pretty heavy, doesn't handle tight twisties like a 600 or 1k.....but then it wasn't designed for that. My GPS told me it will do 176mph..thats fast enough for me, I can ride OVER 200 miles on a tank of gas...and compared to my brother-in-laws 08 CBR1k, my buddies 07 R1, and just about every other 600 or 1k I've ridden...mine is quite comfortable to ride for hours and hours.

I can't really speak from experience but I had a riding buddy that had an 01 gsxr 1000 and loved that thing. When he blew up the motor he upgraded to an 06 1000, and all he ever talked about was how bad he wanted his 01 1000 back. So take it for what it's worth. If you ride it and like the ergonomics of it the go for it.

What it's worth is subjective but the 01/02 GSXR 1000's have the big plus of being a larger bike compared to everything after it, so if you are a bigger rider or ride long distances this is a plus. Granted it will not be as comfortable as a Blackbird/Busa/ZX-14 but my personal experience is it is more comfortable than the 1000's that came after it up until 07.

They tend to hold there value pretty well so even if you decide you don't like it you shouldn't have a problem selling it. If you decide it's too slow you can put a new model 1000 motor in it.

I will add that those things kinda feel clumsy when you are riding it.
