There's a couple pics of the new (to me) bikes. I feel like staying up all night and ordering the baja kit, supermoto wheels/tires, and supermoto plastics but my wife would probably kill me LOL!
Thanks. My wife said I need to order everything tmrw and do it fast before I lose interest (which happens often LOL). So tmrw will be a fun day of price shopping. Any recommendations on online supermoto vendors? I'm thinking DNA or warp 9 wheels will work fine.
I shot an email to Motostrano, so we'll see what they say. Another vendor said 750 shipped for warp 9 wheels which really doesnt sound bad either. So i'm thinking:
Warp 9 wheels-comes with 320mm rotor/bracket
Shinko 705 tires - looks pretty meaty for a 75%street/25% dirt. and the price is right!
that'll at least get it on the right wheels/tires, and i'll be able to take it for a ride on the street and see what else is absolutely neccessary and what can wait for a little while. I want to get an Evo front fender and a kx250 rear fender which should help "modernize" it quite a bit. I'm going to try plasti dipping the fuel tank, seems like people have been having decent luck with that.
I think going all black with the plastics might be the way i go with some green graphics. no monster for me though LOL
wow how did this become a supermoto thread?
any ways those two stroke motards are mean. I could never deal with all the fuel mixing and kickstarting though.
That's a total PITA, i'd rather just ride. I can barely stand the damn 1.6 gallon fuel tank one mine. Right now that is about the only real annoyance after getting taller gearing sprockets.
did I tell yall I did the 10$ tubeless conversion on my rear wheel?
That shit works fine! haven't lost any air at all.
basically :
adjust spokes
drill out valve hole to size of new normal wheel valve
clean inside of wheel with brake/carb cleaner
use 'ultra black' sealant all around spoke nipples on inside carefully sealing each one
play connect the dots and build up some in between the nipples, so that when new tire is put on less chance it could rip any one section off.
allow time to cure
put on tire like normal, with sealant on beads
seat bead like normal without valve stem core
enjoy 5% less weight in rear wheel assembly
profit
Kick starting the 5hundie really isn't hard at all for me, but being 6'2 and 230lbs probably doesn't hurt. After a little debate at the cycle shop, I've decided to have my electrician buddy build me a custom lithium battery (like a rc car battery) that I can stash somewhere to power the brake light and headlight. I figure ill never use the head light and really the only draw being the brake light and maybe a vapor gauge, should last a day or two before it needs charging. Motostrano claims the only option with wheels is Excel with talon hubs which is quite a bit more then warp or DNA. But one guy said he can get mw a set of warp 9 sm wheels for 750 shipped, which doesn't sound bad. Just need to make sure he's legit first. LOL.

you can buy all kinds of little lithium ion batterys out there now for dirt bikes for 100 $. I don't really see why your buddy has to build one IMO.
lol yeah i weigh like 160, I ain't kicking on no 500 everyday!
mixing fuel would add up price wise too I would think. 500 2 stroke though, is that pretty insane power or what ?
my neighbors would probably shit if i fired up a 500 2 stroke at 8am. it alreadly sounds like a chopper overhead with my 4 stroke bike warming up this morning.
It's not that expensive. All of my bike friends are trying to convince me not to motard the kx500, due to the ridiculous amount of power and the inconvienence of being a 2 stroke but Meh. Ive got a solid line on a set of warp 9s, just need to pull the trigger. That'll be the real test, seeing how rideable it is with street tires on it. It really doesn't feel that much faster then a 450, its just the power band is so unpredictable and when it hits its like holding on to a rocket.
I can't believe how wild that thing is going to be man. I've ridden a few different CRF450 supermotos, and they were A LOT of fun. I can't even imagine how it'll be when 100% of that crazy 2-stroke power hooks up on asphalt vs spinning madly on dirt.
This is one of those projects that you've gotta do, just to say that you've done it.

There will be no keeping the front tire on the ground. Even when I was a bigger guy I couldnt keep the tire on the ground on pavement with a dirt tire.
