Labor and parts can run in excess of 2 grand easy. My 98 fact 750 was about $850 in parts at my cost and I did it myself. I replaced everything that had wear

Ummmm no . It's hard to tell what else is trashed , worn or broken .

if the engine is all silver, which i think it is, the mini sprint guys love those things. And ya, gearbox parts are expensive and a pain in the ass to get to, especially on stacked gearboxes like those.

i feel for ya bud, the loss of 2nd gear seems to be a BIG problem among the 600R (i have a 1998 model and i've read about this happening to a LOT of those bikes). you can find a whole lot of info about them at www.yzf600r.com. as for the price, it all depends on whether you buy new or used parts, and whether you do the work yourself or pay somebody else to do it. sorry to hear about the bad stroke of luck, but hopefully it turns around for the better when you try to fix this mess!
