Anyone have one? I am on the market for one. They have come so damn far since I had my 1978 kx 125! I can't decide if a 250 will have enough power for highway commuting or should I go with a 500?

KLR considered an endoro? If so, the new ones are selling with great rebates and you can get a 2010 model new still due to they being a niche item. I was at Grapevine Kawasaki yesterday getting some parts for my Drifter and I saw two brand new ones. Both had aftermarket engine guards, exhaust, one with a seat, etc and they wanted well below msrp. My .02!

My DRZ400 is light enough that I can ride it offroad nearly as hard as I used to ride my old KDX200, but when I get done riding offroad I can simply ride it to the nearest pavement and ride home at highway speeds pretty easily. The bigger dual sports like the KLR 650 and others are certainly off road capable as well but they start getting heavier and harder to manage off-road than my DRZ400...but they also have a much easier time on the highway than my little 400.

unless you want to convert a mx or trail bike to street you are kind of limited..how big are you? sounds like you want to use this mainly for around town commuting and a little dirt every now and then...once you start looking at 650s and up (best for commuting) you start to compromise your dirt capabilities.
if youre a big boy, id say look at newer xr650, dr650, ktm 690, ktm 640 lc4...i would steer clear of any 250 unless youre 100 lbs. you could gear it up and have a respectable town/highway commuter, but the bike will have no passing power, NO BALLS..
a bolt-on drz400 would probably be the best of both worlds for you but it's still a drz...kind of underwhelming.
i would personally pick ktm and not look back. http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/mcy/2603886002.html

I am 5'10" 170 lbs. I don't think I'd be able to touch the ground on one of those 650's. As for off roading I'm not looking to jump dunes but I'd like the option of some trail riding. My main concern was the commuting, I don't want to be that guy holding up everyone. I'm going to check into those 400's. Thanks for all the input guys.

I sent him a PM and am trying to sell him my bolt-on DRZ400SM, fyi.
It looks like I'll be moving and the company won't pay to re-locate my 4 bikes, so very unfortunately, I'm looking at selling at least a couple of them. I paid $3k for it this spring with only 800 miles on it and put almost that back into it in mods, and told him I'd take $3,500 for it. I think that's a very fair price for a DRZ as nice as mine.
And it's surprisingly capable off-road, even with street tires! You just need to be veeeery light with the front brake, cause as good as the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP1 grips on the streets, it's not so good on dirt/sand, lol.
It's a great bike, and plenty of power (I think), especially for a 170lb'er...I'm 230lbs now.
I hope this works out and the bike finds a nice, new home. Then I'm gonna take the money and buy another full-on 'Tard when I get settled.
