  • Selling motorocycle to out of state buyer?

If I were to sell my motorcycle to a buyer that is out of state, do I need to transfer the title here in Texas when they come into town?

Or do I just make the deal and sign the title over, then fill out some form at
    the DMV indicating the sale?

    Just hand over the title.

In order for them to get the title in their name in that state, the bike must be inspected first and pass the states own safety inspection. Then they take that inspection sheet to their local DMV and can pay their taxes and registration fees.

You just simply sign and date the title and hand it over. Make sure you make up a bill of sale with both of your names on it, signed and dated. This is for your records if the new owner pulls any stunts like running tolls, red lights, etc while its still in your name. You can easily get out of them that way.

I'm not sure if this is also needed when selling a vehicle out of state, but why not!

Stunter Bob is right on target... I had to do the same thing while purchasing an Oklahoma bike.

Damn you man I was wanting free tolls. Jay let me know how you want to do it. We can always meet at the DMV here and Ill title it in my name in front of you. I already called DMV and no inspection is needed here only bill of sale with purchase price (so they can tax me i told them it was a gift and they said ok no estimated value crap here like texas has and signed title. Ill e-mail you tomorrow I'm gonna look up rental rates and see if I can get something to tow it back with because waiting till December may kill me.
