  • Oil change in the 1300R

I have a 2006 Hayabusa that I bought new. I only ride now a days when the weather is perfect or near perfect, so the bike sits on stands most of the year under a cover. I think I have about 3800 miles on it. The only mods are a pair of bolt on pipes.

Anyway, to get back on topic, I need to change the oil again to get ready for this season, and I would like to get opinions on what would be good to use. I have always used store brand (Suzuki) synthetic, and a store brand filter. However, I barely ride, so I am not sure if that is the best to use. I want to use a good oil, but I do not want to waste money on one that sits for 9 months.

I always ran mx4t, I think its red cap 15/50 now. Used repsol once and bike instantly got a clutch basket grumble.

be careful with the friction modifier oils.. if you have a wet clutch it can eat it up.

no doubt...i believe none of the conventional 10w40s have friction modifiers though..i switch to 20w50 in the winter, so i try to get something suzuki specific for that.

That's why I have been using store brand. I worry about the additives.

If it says energy conserving in the little triangle, run away.

I buy the large jugs of Mobil1 synthetic they sell at Wal-Mart and have since I bought my bike in 02 (99' Honda Blackbird). Never had a problem.

I may do that. I just have to buy so damn much oil for this bike. I think it holds either 4.5 or 5.5 qts

Another vote for Mobil1 synthetic. Used it on both my bikes for years.

i hated mobil 1 for years. However, now the only oil you can buy over the counter with tons of zinc is the mx4t 10/40 and the V-twin 20/50. I've seen inside engines that used this oil after pumping all the water out of the cooling system several nights in a row, and kept racing..........quite impressive.

My Blackbird used 4 of the 5qts.

believe it or not, autozone usually stocks enough of it to do a change.

I use to use Shell Rotella purple bottle from walmart. Cheap, synthetic, and was recommended to me by the hardcore ST1300 and 1100 riders. worked great for me!
