  • Honda V65 1100 questions

My dad has this motor taking up space in my motorcycle work area and would like to get it running. It is currently locked up. We have it torn down, minus splitting the case. The pistons seem to be the culprit. I have let it soak in ATF with a little acetone mixed in, but that didn't work. Let it soak in Marvel mystery oil, but that didn't work.

It seems like we are going to have to split the case to pull the crank and then press the pistons and sleeves out in order to replace them. The huge drawback is the fact that the it will have to be line bored in order to rebuild the engine.

What kind of cost are we looking at for this? Would he be better off scrapping the whole thing for another engine? Is there any other way to get the pistons freed up?

What are you going to do with it? There is a guy in Dallas that parts them bikes out alot and bet you could get anything you needed from him or a newer block.
    Whos your Daddy?

The dreaded V65 V4 strikes again. Could be the cam chain snapped. I have replaced both V45 and V65 Magna engines in several of those bikes. You can buy complete usable engines if you search online. Last time I did a V65 there was a guy somewhere out near Tyler that dismantled them that had a website. Those motors (especially the 65 version) have terrible lubrication to the valvetrain and cams..which is why Honda stopped making them in 86. Are you thinking you're gonna rebuild it yourself? Buy a used engine that runs...and sell it before that one fails. Been there done that too many times.

My dad was going to use it for a trike project. The trike is already setup for shaft drive, so he was hoping to use this motor.

We didn't know they had horrible oiling issues. I've also found they had shifting issues, so I'm thinking I'll be talking him out of trying to fix this one up.
