Ive been playing with different things on this bike, having a lot of fun trying different things.
The first thing I did after riding a bit was to get a windshield, and thus began my quest against wind. The short windshield I bought didnt do much more than send the wind into my face. I rode a couple of fairing'ed bikes, and shopped ebay and found a HD copied aftermarket. It broke the wind so much better, but highway speeds sucked still. Air was moving over and around me, but the gap under the fairing would allow air up over the top and id get buffeting at my face.
Hence, I test rode a couple of solid fairing bikes. MUCH better on wind, and handled better in wind since the fairing would move the bars while riding.
I searched around, and nobody makes one for my bike. Actually, nobody really makes them period. I did find some cafe types, but that is not where I want to be with it. I searched around, looked at a couple Vetter designs, and thought about some factory stuff. Nothing really caught my eye.
I stumbled on an old 1975 GL1000 that had a very interesting fairing at a cycle salvage. The saga it turned into is a long story, but I got the fairing, bags and even a trunk for a fair price.
Ive stripped it, filled some holes, and mocked it up onto the bike. I think it is going to work well, and solve my buffeting.
I know this isnt everyone's style, and you may or may not like it, but I think its fun, and dig it.
on to the pics...
raw:
set the bag up, not mounted, but has good lines, and matches pretty well to the lines of the bike
Mocking the fairing. This is after chopping out most of the guts of the fairing.
Sorry, I took these with my phone, and they wont post up correctly.
I need to tweak the angle a bit, and still have a ton of work on the fairing itself, and making brackets, wiring it up, etc. Then Ill get the bags on, and work on the trunk.
