Depends on the bike/mounting position, slider brand, and type of crash. Sliders often turn cheap damage (cosmetic/plastic) into damage that dents/cracks/punctures frames and/or tweaks out motor mounts in cases.
Sliders break, cheap slider hardware breaks, no cut sliders often break, some designs will break and puncture/severely dent a frame as it puts the stress on one point. Some mounting points on certain bikes or certain "no-cut" designs are really low and will cause the bike to roll up onto the upper fairing/hand controls increasing the odds of the bike rolling over entirely not to mention damaging areas that wouldn't otherwise be damaged.
Frame sliders often turn simple lowsides into bike-totaling tumbles when a bike leaves the pavement and the slider digs into soil.
I've spent all of my adult life in the hobby/industry and I used to run them when I was a newb, but after being around salvaged bikes for years I changed my mind.
There are some that are higher quality than others, some designs that work better than others, and certainly there is room for improvement in order to make a better mousetrap, but in my experiences you're better off without them.US Politics in three words - Divide and Conquer
