You can't measure just clear with a mill gauge. It will tell you how much material is on the panel from metal up. Also if a car is not laser straight and you take out all of the texture it will magnify every imperfection under the topcoat. Some cars actually look better with a little orange peel on them.

~$800 to $1, 500. Like mentioned above, one concern is how much clear did the painter give you to play with when he sprayed it. Anyone competent who bids the job for you will measure the mils to determine how much overall paint is on the car. They can get a rough idea of what they have, and can do some test spots to make sure. Good luck man, a good cut and buff can make the paint job look better than a new car if done right.

+1 for Nick. I've done quite a few cars with him, and I wouldn't hesitate to call him if I were you. He def knows what he is doing!

Yea I have a couple of cell phone pics... So far is going okay. I didn't sand it completely flat. Working on buffing now. This was quite a project!

Hell Yea it is. Sucks when you have a shit paint job to start with. Took a while to accept that its not going to be perfect no matter what I do... But it's 1000% better now than it was.
