  • Good paint for chassis

I am pulling the Cobra apart and think I will take the time to paint some of the bare stuff Ford failed to do or only sprayed a thin bit on.

I found the Eastwood Chassis Black Paint and their Black Chassis Primer for stuff like:
    Spindles
    Rear end housing

But what would you put on the underside of the body metal and in the fenderwells? The car is 1995 Black and it has that green primer showing all over behind the fenders, in the A-pilar, etc.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

    I personally like rubberized undercoating.
There are plenty of brands of them out there, but I've used Rust-oleum and 3M, both work great.

I haven't used it personally, but know lots of guys use the POR15 and love it.

I think I am gonna give the Rustoleum stuff a shot. Sitting in my cart on Eastwood's website is their chassis black and primer but if I can get the Rustoleum at Autozone I would rather.

DFWtechie....I may take you up on that offer to check it out when I come pick up the dash and stuff.

How tacky or rubbery is this stuff? I don't want something that you can stick your fingernail into and hit metal. I need something a little harder than that.

I got it all from Home depot. You can also get it in the quart cans.

If you get the por-15 be sure to get the semi-gloss.

I always try to use a single stage urethane black on the bottom of the cars that don't get body color. In most cases I use a flattner to acheive different levels of shine. Just finished a '69 Mach 1 underside and suspension. We powder coated the Total Cost Involved suspension and panted the rest with ss urethane. I need to learn to post pics, it's pretty cool.

yes, please post pics. host them to imgur or photobucket copy the links and paste them.

I figure since I pulling the exhaust to get welded up, the rear to paint and swap the diff cover, and fuel tank to weld in a drain and replace the sending unit; I might as well paint the under side. I am not super happy with the blue tint in the black powder coat on all my MM Suspension parts but I am not about to paint that stuff.

I've tried the por-15 and didn't like it.

For the "gonna get scratched the eff up" places like the underside and wheel wells, I used Hammerite Rust Cap: Hammered finish. it has glass in the paint which leaves a slick surface thats tough as hell. It also cost about $6 a gallon at ACE hardware (lol!) and its easy to touch up.

Underhood and suspension stuff I used SEM hot rod black epoxy. It's semi-gloss and looks great, can apply more for high gloss, and it's sprays easily. Solvent resistant and tough as shit. It's a bit pricey though, but I liked it 100x over por-15.

we used that on our cages, it holds up nicely, is easy to bush on, and looks good too.
