I'm thinking of starting a detail business, but am a little worried about the risks if not making any money! Anyone have any insight?

Don't take IOU's...
Nick is a damn good detailer btw..."Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Was thinking of starting as mobile detailing to get my name out there and build a clientele base before a monthly cost of a lease. Was also planning on getting a handful of appointments together for cheap details for website pictures. Before and after swirl removals, washes, etc.

If you don't have a website, get one built with your services, pictures, etc before doing anything else. Social Media is your best friend. Remember, people like pictures/videos and that is what sells.
Also, if you haven't... I HIGHLY suggest Renny Doyle's "How to start a detailing business" if you are thinking about taking the plunge. Tons of info in there to help you understand and not under sell yourself/services that will help you tremendously.
What type of services are you looking at offering? How long have you been doing this? Are you motivated?
Good luck buddy. In a market where there are a ton of highly skilled detailers in DFW, it's tough. Just remember, your name rolls off with every car.
