I've seen a lot of Doctors with this mentality. It's really fantastic when you're dealing with chronic pain and paying a small fortune to see someone to help who basically says deal with it. God fucking forbid anyone actually need the medication we've spent thousands of years getting to to actually make people feel better.

Venix - I only have general advice and frankly you're probably a lot smarter than I am - so you probably already know this one. However, when I'm learning more complex things for my job (specifically out of a book) - I just do small segments. In my case (these days) I set my own schedule for what I need to learn, so there is no deadlines. So, sometimes they are pretty small segments. However, if I pick some segment and start learning it - it allows me to reference back to other things I may have forgotten or did not fully understand. Then I got it and I know it as much as you can at that point.
I see a lot of people trying to learn too much in one shot or generally try to absorb too much information at once. Then there maybe 2+ things that were not learned properly which creates a snowball problem down the line.
This seems like basic stuff, but I've seen really intelligent people just trying to go too fast and screwing up.Originally posted by MR EDDU defend him who use's racial slurs like hes drinking water.

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

And this is the type of bullshit I deal with on a daily basis. The human body isn't a car where you can just replace parts when they break and not have side effects that are never going to go away. While in theory you are correct, I see a WHOLE lot of holier than thou bullshit dealing with doctors where pain management means that they think a few needles and stretches will return you to age 18. Tim's post and yours are prime examples of the lack of empathy that permeates the medical field along with the vilification of medications by the federal government. It's one of the things that makes me hate living in this country.
I know exactly how much pain I'm in every day and what it takes to counter act it. I'm on a shit ton of medication and have had surgeries, physical therapy, chiropracty, etc, and the meds I'm on if taken correctly barely even dial the pain back, let alone make it evaporate. I could be on something better I'm sure, but god fucking forbid anyone prescribe something that has slightly euphoric effects; we'd much rather just give you something that barely takes the edge off and "just deal with" the rest. It's fucking pathetic. The best part is everyone rolling their eyes at you being in pain; because they don't see you're missing an arm or something they figure it must be no big deal.

My reasoning is because I have grown up watching people suffer while taking medicine only to have the medicine end up being the bigger problem at the end of the day. I do not believe that I said I wanted you to be in pain; I believe I said the opposite. I have seen people live in pain for my entire life, and it hurts to witness. I want it to end, and I will do what is necessary to end it. I have watched pain medications fail to provide relief and cause numerous other chronic issues within the body due to their harmful nature.
So with that said. I still believe that more can be done, and I would like to research it so that others in the future do not have to suffer as they do now.

Sorry, I've been a bit frustrated dealing with this lately and you may have caught some of the brunt of it. I do agree that meds can be a problem for some people. However, I don't get why the absolute bare minimum is always prescribed. I would do anything for my back not to hurt for a few hours, and I know there are stronger meds available that could help. Until someone starts exhibiting problems, they should be given the benefit of the doubt and something that can actually stop the pain. Me living any type of conventional life at this point is pretty much at an end.

The A&M change has proven to be a real PITA as well, but will ultimately look better on paper, outside of DFW.
