Plant workers it's all about time on the job though. I personally got to lay off lots of people out there in '07. I took a voluntary layoff myself in '08 to go try other opportunities.
Honestly guys, jump all over this opportunity. It is a good plant to work in. There is plenty of pay and benefits to be had. Just go into it knowing that when the trucking industry turns for the worst, Piggott is going to hand you walking papers. At the top it is all about making money. Get all the stock you can now during the time it is going up too. Mark P will earn a ton of money for the company during the good times, and he will keep it alive during the bad times. It's the game they play.
There are tons of great guys working out there too. If I had a choice of going back there, I'd want to be in test or QA as an hourly employee over salary out there any day of the week.
Starting out though you are going to go on the line and bolt up parts. Being able to read blueprints and having basic mechanical skills and a history of good work will get you in. Honesty will get you in too.
I'm lucky though. I finally landed in the perfect job for me. They'd have to throw more money at me than they would ever dream to get me back in that plant on evenings.
Econo if you are in test, then you know Gene. Tell Gene I said hello .
